The first divers use to dive in order to dig objects from sunk ships.
The diver could only stay under water foe a few minutes – just as long as he could hold his breath. That kind of diving is called “free diving” which is done using only a mask a snorkel and fins.
Till these days free diving is used for collecting pearls and also as an extreme sport.
The master of the modern dive and dive photography as we know it today was Lieutenant Jack Cousteau.
During the 30’s and 40’s Cousteau was busy testing free diving in shallow water using just a mask and snorkel.
Him and his friends were the ones to develop the first diving tank to allow a diver to dive to different depths without being connected to a boat, giving the diver more space and freedom.
